The night before yesterday, I was sitting in the train, doing my favorite thing, which is people watching.
Watching people is fascinating as they exist in many forms, many characters. But you have to know the right way to do it because you don’t want to be seen as some creepy person staring at them.
So I was looking at this guy, whose personality comes out to me as a bit soft, where his feminity won over her masculine side. That was my assumption of course. You can’t be too judgemental.
Then enter an Arab woman and she said hye to the man. Okay, this is a typical situation when friends see other friends in the train. It happens to me all the time.
Then both of them sit to seat next to me and start conversing. Conversation in the train is another thing that is intriguing, although they always revolve on the same mundane stuff.
Then they started to converse. I was expecting the usual ‘How are you’, ‘Where are you from’ etc and I did get them. But the funny thing is, they don’t know each other. They just see each other so many times. At McD, around their house etc. One thing about the train is we do see the same particular stranger(s) until we feel like we know them because we nearly see them all the time (without talking to them of course).
So their chat was the usual first time introduction we always heard (well, at one point the guy said he love belly dancing which had proven my assumption).
But there was this particular part of the conversation that touched me somehow.
Guy: You don’t have your family here. Don’t you miss them?
Girl: Of course I do, I feel alone sometimes. How about you?
Guy: My family is not here too, I get to see my friends once in a while because everyone is busy. Yes, I feel alone. Too alone sometimes.
It’s the tone of his voice that somehow makes me sad. In the train, a lot of people are by their own. Getting back home from office, class, we are all alone. But as we’re getting older, everyone in their life is moving on, leaving the past behind, and in the end, we are indeed alone.
I know my posts are gloomy but I can’t stop myself from writing things like this. It makes me feel better.
